You can add more sugar or oil depending on the consistency you like. More oil will be more gentle on your face. More sugar will be more abrasive. Get the balance right to suit your skin.

The choice of oil will depend on the type of your skin. For greasy skin, try safflower oil. You can also use grape-seed oil. These are less viscous oil. For the dry skin use a little more viscous oil such as coconut oil or olive oil.

Face Preparation

It is important to prepare your skin for scrubbing. Any dryness in the skin will irritate your skin more during scrubbing. So remove all dirt particles from the skin by a gentle wash with normal water. Do not use hot water or hard chemical soaps. Just clean your skin and keep it wet.

You can also apply a little oil before scrubbing. Use the same oil that you have mixed with sugar to make the scrub.

Your skin is now ready for scrubbing.

Scrub

Apply the prepared paste on one of your cheeks first. Rub it in a circular motion in upward direction. This will help skin to remain firm and not hang. Slowly move the periphery of the movement to cover the entire side of the face.

Do the same on the other side.

Let the process take about 10-15 minutes of gentle massage. Leave it for 10 minutes more and then rinse with water. Your skin may appear red due to abrasive sugar. It will be back to normal within 6-8 hours. Have patience.
