Home Remedies for Ganglion Cyst

A ganglion cyst is a firm or spongy swelling/tumor on top of joint or on the covering of a tendon. The cyst is filled with jelly like material which is thick sticky clear and colorless.

Ganglion cyst usually appear on fingers, wrists, ankles and soles of the feet .The size of the cyst can range from a small peanut size to as large as a golf ball.

There are a number of common practices people have used at home to remove ganglion cyst. Two most common ones are - removal by a needle or by pressing by a heavy book.

Both these methods do give temporary relief but the cyst comes back within a year.

1. Drain the Cyst with Syringe

If you decide to drain the ganglion cyst by syringe then let it be done by a doctor. Do not do it at home and cause infection due to poor hygiene or lack of expertise. The process is called aspiration and requires a lot of precision to do it. Some courageous people do it themselves but is not encouraged. Let professionals do their job.

2. Book Method

Take a heavy book and hit on your ganglion cyst a few times. The cyst subsides. This method first of all appears barbaric and is not effective. The cyst temporarily disappears and the fluid gets dispersed but still inside, so it reappears quickly. If the fluid gets out if the sack and drains inside the cells underneath the skin then it is not good at all. So simply avoid it.

3. Warm Compresses

Warm Compresses will instantly reduce pain. Regular use of warm compress improves blood circulation in the affected area promoting fluid drainage.

This the safest method to get rid of ganglion cyst. It requires patience.

You can soak a washcloth in warm water. Wring it out the extra water so that your washcloth is warm without any dripping water. Put the washcloth on the ganglion cyst on your wrist for 5 to 10 minutes. If the washcloth quickly loses the warmth then soak it again and repeat. Do this 3-4 times a day until your ganglion cyst drains off completely. It will gradually disappear.

4. Frankincense oil

Frankincense oil us an expensive essential oil with astringent and cyst healing capabilities. It also reduces the pain instantly and speed up healing of ganglion cyst.

You don't need too much frankincense oil. Just a few drops will do the job. Apply 2-3 drops of frankincense oil on your ganglion cyst and cover it with a soft clean bandage. Do it once every day and use a fresh and clean bandage every time.

5. Epsom Salt

You can apply Epsom salt in many different ways to reduce pain and dissolve the cyst. The simplest method is to add epsom salts to two cups of warm water and make a thick solution by dissolving it. Sock the ganglion cyst on your wrist for 10 minutes. Do it daily until the cyst disappears.

Another method is to dissolve Epsom salt in warm castor oil. Rub it on on your cyst by gently massaging for 2-3 minutes and then wrap a bandage. Do it daily until the cyst disappears.
