Irregular periods or oligomenorrhea is a common problem among menstruating age women. On average a woman menstruates 11-13 times a year and their normal cycle ranges from 21-35 days.

Women with irregular periods will have lesser number of periods per year. Any period which goes beyond 35 days is considered irregular.

Anemia, menopause, thyroid disorders, hormonal imbalances, eating disorders are some of the common causes in addition to numerous other conditions such as liver disease, diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome and lifestyle disorders such as stress , alcohol abuse and caffeine etc,.

7 Natural Home Remedies for Irregular Periods

Various fruits and vegetables can help you to get normal periods. Some of them can be eaten raw and others can be consumed as juices. Whether you eat raw or make juices is not as important as to actually consume them regularly.

 

Not only just delayed periods are considered irregular but less or scanty bleeding also falls in the category of irregular periods. Therefore the remedies must not only expedite the periods but also promotes normal bleeding.

1. Carrot

Carrots are rich in iron that makes it a good remedy for irregular periods. Carrot is also filled with other nutrients such as beta-carotene.

  • Eat one full size carrot daily
  • Prepare a juice of carrots and drink one glass of carrot juice daily

Make it a regular practice throughout the year if you have irregular periods.

2. Ginger

Ginger is another powerful remedy for irregular periods. it also soothes the menstrual pain. You can prepare ginger tea and drink it 2-3 times a day.

  • Cut an inch of ginger root, clean it, remove the skin and shred it in a shredder
  • Steep shredded ginger in a glass of water for 10 minutes.
  • Cool it to palatable condition, strain it and drink.

3. Aloe Vera

This is not an external application on skin for which Aloe Vera is generally used. This time it is a consumption of Aloe. There is no scientific evidence available but it is believed that Aloe Vera regulates hormones.

Extract 2 tablespoon of gel from an Aloe Vera leaf. Add one teaspoon of honey and mix it well. Lick the mixture daily for 3-4 months to get back to normal monthly periods.

4. Coriander Seeds

Coriander is another good home remedy for irregular menstrual cycle. Drink tea made from coriander seeds 3 times a day a few days ahead of your expected periods. This will help in not missing out the periods.

Boil one teaspoon of coriander seeds in two cups of water until the water levels reduced to half. Let it cool down to palatable levels. Strain the seeds and drink the tea.

5. Unripe Papaya

Papaya extract helps contract muscle fiber in the uterus. Unripe papaya is more potent than the ripe.

Extract juice from half a normal size of papaya and drink it daily for several weeks to get regular monthly periods.

6. Cinnamon

Cinnamon Helps reducing menstrual cramps and regulates menstrual cycle. A compound called hydroxychalcone present in cinnamon regulates insulin levels which is supposed to act as a catalyst to expedite the menstrual cycle.

  • Add 1/2 teaspoon of powdered cinnamon in a glass of milk and drink it daily for several weeks to bring back the menstrual periods to normal.
  • or add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon to your food.

7. Bitter Gourd

Bitter gourd juice is very useful remedy for bringing back the normal menstrual cycle. it is bitter, so you may not like the taste. You can add honey to reduce the bitterness. Consume 2 tablespoon of bitter gourd juice with one teaspoon of honey twice a day for several weeks.
