Onions for baldness

Home Remedies for Male Pattern Baldness

As soon as you reach the age of 20 you can begin to see male pattern baldness. Though home remedies for hair loss may help in the hair restoration process to some extent, you still have to understand that it is a very specific type of hair loss.

The condition male pattern baldness is medically known as Androgenic Alopecia. As the name suggests it is mostly a genetic disorder. Hair loss or baldness occurs due to susceptibility of hair follicles to shrinkage caused by Androgenic hormones.

Though the condition is called male pattern baldness, women also can get affected by it. Men still remain significantly higher affected by the Alopecia.

If a genetically susceptible person takes enough care and takes suitable home remedies for male pattern baldness, then he/she can avoid getting bald. It simply means that this genetic disorder can be corrected.

That is a lot of good news for those who have assumed that their fate is to become bald. It may take a lot of time, effort and medication to keep hair on you scalp.

On the other hand it is also important to understand that all the so called natural stuff will not cure baldness. There are only a few natural remedies that have been scientifically proven to stop hair loss. These are discussed later in the article, but before that you need to understand what exactly happens in the male pattern baldness that keeps receding hairline.

How Male Pattern Baldness Progresses?

Your hair goes through 2 phases. One us a growing phase in which the hair grows, thickens and gets its luster. This phase lasts between 3-6 years. The other phase is called resting phase which lasts only 90 days. During this phase the hair stops growing, begins thinning and ultimately falls.

There are about 100,00 to 150,000 hair follicles on a full scalp and only about 10% of them are on a resting phase at any given time. That is why the hair fall is not noticeable.

During the Androgenic Alopecia, the time period for the growing phase also known as anagen phase drastically is reduced and can come down below the numbers of resting phase or telogen phase. This means a lot of hair begins to fall and you begin to look bald.

A potent Androgenic hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). For those people who have sensitivities to Androgenic hormone, the DHT becomes a toxin to hair follicles. This is the beginning of the end of your hair. Surprisingly the hormone sensitivities do not affect the hair follicles around the ears and back of the head. That pattern of hair falls is more common in men than is why it is called male pattern baldness.

Natural Home Remedies for Male Pattern Baldness

Although there are a number of herbs and oils that may show good results in maintaining your hair condition, none have shown any long term capabilities to cure male pattern baldness effectively. There is one exception. That is Onion.

According to a published research paper in the Journal of Dermatology in June 2002, the researchers had found significantly higher hair growth in the group using onion juice for eight weeks as compared to the group that was not using onion juice on their scalp.

The research was conducted on people with patchy hair loss condition called Alopecia Areata.

You can apply Onion juice as under:

  • Finely grate an onion
  • Put it in a fine mesh strainer to extract juice
  • Fill the juice in an applicator bottle
  • Apply the juice in the roots of hair covering the entire scalp
  • Massage and keep it for an hour before washing with plain water or very mild shampoo
  • Apply conditioner and rinse
  • Dab your hair dry with a towel

Do it twice a day for 2 months and if you are happy with the results then continue the treatment with oil juice for a year.

You see, there is a lot of hard work and inconvenience as the onion smell will make you social outcast for almost 2 hours everyday. But it is well worth the effort if you want to restore your lost hair and stop further fall.
