It all has to begin with managing the scalp. As we are aware that oil produced by the glands is necessary to keep the skin healthy. It is the overproduction that causes oiliness of hair.

 

Our body naturally secrets a fatty substance called sebum from the sebaceous glands. Face and scalp are the area where we can feel and see oiliness due to overproduction of sebum.

Everyone secrets sebum, and this is essential for skin health. Some people secrete more sebum than other mainly due to genetic reasons.

The sebum produced by the scalp in the hair follicles spreads upwards over the hair shaft giving it a greasy look.

Shorter hair will look more greasy and oily because the lesser hair surface has to deal with the sebum as compared to the longer hair.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar is very helpful ingredient for many conditions including greasy hair care. Rinsing your hair with diluted vinegar after shampooing does the trick. The hair remains normal for at least 12 hours after curing with Apple cider vinegar.

Ensure that you use diluted Apple Cider Vinegar to make your hair oil free. 5-6 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar in 500 ml of water makes a good mixture for hair. With its astringent qualities it keeps the oil away from the greasy hair.

Wash and rinse the hair after apply Apple cider Vinegar solution. No Need to use any conditioner.

2. Lemon Juice

Lemon Juice is another powerful remedy to make your greasy hair oil free. Cut a big lemon and extract its juice and mix it with a cup of water.

Apply this lemon juice water mixture on your greasy hair with your fingers massaging the scalp. Keep it there for a couple of minutes. Wash and rinse your hair with normal water. Make them dry with a towel. Once again don’t use any conditioner on your hair.

3. Baking Soda

Baking soda with its alkaline properties helps removing oil from the greasy hair. Add a teaspoon of baking soda to a cup of water and mix it well. Apply the solution to your greasy hair. Keep it there for 2 minutes, then wash and rinse your hair.

4. Egg and Yogurt

This is one of the oldest home remedies for oily hair. Beat 2 eggs and mix them in a cup of yogurt. Mix it well to make a homogeneous paste. You can add half a teaspoon of lemon juice to the mixture.

We are going to use this as a hair mask. Apply this paste on your greasy hair. Leave it there for 15 minutes. Then wash and rinse your hair. Make sure that no traces are left over while washing your hair.

All the above 4 home remedies for greasy hair can be used in a sequence. First of all don’t wash your hair daily. Wash hair on alternate days using one of the above remedies. Start with apple cider vinegar on one day, then lemon juice on the next washing session and then baking soda on the next alternate day. Finish the cycle with Eggs and yogurt on another alternate day. Once the cycle is complete, repeat it.

Within 2 months you should be free of greasy hair.
