What is Eczema and How to Deal With It?

Eczema is a general term used for many types of skin inflammation, also known as dermatitis. It  can be very different in different people but one thing is common and that is everyone suffers from - dry skin, sore rashes, and terrible itching no matter how severe the eczema is!

It can be frustrating trying to manage eczema flare-ups under control. It can profoundly affect quality of life, can cause serious health problems and interfere with normal, everyday activities.

So what is eczema and who does it affect?

It is defined as a group of skin related problems that cause skin to become red, irritated and itchy. In some cases the sufferer can develop small, fluid-filled bumps that become moist and ooze.

It can affect people of any age. Infants get affected the most. In about half of the cases Eczema will permanently resolve by age 3 of the affected infants.

It  tends to recur throughout life in some cases where People often have a family history of eczema. It can also occur and reoccur in people with family history of other allergic conditions, such as asthma or hay fever.

 

Most people suffering from eczema and some parents of children suffering from it do not understand the condition well. They don’t know how to manage and control it. This causes eczema to reoccur.

The exact reasons of eczema are not understood yet by the scientists and doctors, but they think it could be the immune system reacts to things differently in different people. Skin allergies may be the reasons in some forms of eczema.

It isn't contagious. Genetics can be one of the reasons for it. It is fairly common and 1 in every 10 person is likely to get affected by it at some point in their lives.
