Types of HerpesThere are many different types of herpes prevailing. Two of them are most common and they are caused by Herpes Simplex Virus 1 (HSV1) and Herpes Simplex Virus 2 (HSV 2). Following are the details of the two most types of herpes:
1- Cold SoresGenerally Caused by HSV1. It affects facial area, mainly lips and inner side of the mouth. The virus usually resides near the ear. it can spread to other parts of the body. It some times flares up near the eyes and can also spread to brain. It becomes dangerous then. The Cold Sores are also called Oral Herpes. The virus can transmit orally to genital area. When HSV 1 gets transmitted to genital area it may not show any symptoms or even if it does it is not as sever as herpes caused by HSV 2. Majority of American population (> 60%) above the age of 12 is infected by HSV 1. It spreads fast through sharing ( common use of utensils) and caring and kissing. 2- Genital HerpesThis type of herpes is usually caused by HSV2. The person once infected by this type of herpes may not show any symptoms for months or even years. But the first outbreak, whenever happens, is painful. The virus remain dormant and resided under the spinal cord area. The bad news is it is much more sever and painful and lasts longer during every outbreak. The good news is that it doesn't get spread to any other part of the body. It some times gets transmitted to become a cold sore on facial area as a result of oral sex. A person who shows no symptoms of cold sore or genital herpes can pass it on to another person. That is the reason many people get it without being able to take any precautions.
