You must Understand How Different Types of Acne Scars are Formed?

If you have acne, make sure that you don't end up having acne scars too. Knowing and understanding about different types of scars caused by the acne is really helpful in taking precautions and treating them. There are four different types of acne scars which are classified under two different categories

1- Altropic
2- Hypertropic

The fundamental difference between these two categories is in the way acne scars are formed on the skin. Altropic scars are caused by the loss of skin tissues and Hypertropic are caused by an excess of skin tissues.

Three Different Type of Acne Scars Fall Under Altorpic Category

It is easy to understand that tissue loss, if any due to acne,  will take different shapes depending on the type of skin and the severity of acne. There are three distinct shapes in which the acne scars are generally formed due to the loss of tissues.  The acne scars are divided in the following three types depending on this shape created by the tissue loss:

Boxcar Scars - These are wide and deep scars giving an appearance of small pits on the skin. A depressed area is created as a result of infection leaving the the skin over this area without support. These scars can be treated by dermal fillers and laser resurfacing in addition to many other methods.

Ice Pick Scars - These scars look like open pores. They are very narrow but deep. Mainly cyst infection is the cause of this type of acne scar. they are usually treated with punch grafting.

Rolling Scars - Wave like formations are made on the skin surface due to fibrous bands of tissue developing between the skin and the underlying subcutaneous tissue. The binding of skin structure changes creating a rolling appearance. Rolling types of acne scars are normally treated with subcision.

Hypertropic Types of Acne Scars

Keloid Scars - are Hypertropic types of acne scars which are created by a raised and firm mass of tissues on the surface. The size of the affected mass can increase over time. The best method to treat them is to flatten them by steroid creams and injections.

Though it is useful to understand which kinds of acne scars can ruin your looks, it is more important to understand how to prevent them from forming.

Acne scars are not a very happy site for a facial skin. Be careful and ensure that none of the above types of acne scars are formed on your skin. Take regular precautions and medication as required.
