How to Prevent Acid Reflux?- Preventing Heartburn is Easier Than You Thought

It is easy to prevent acid reflux in most cases. We all have suffered from Acid reflux some time or the other. It may be triggered by lifestyle and food habits. So understand your triggers to prevent acid reflux.

Stop those food or activity that triggers Heartburn. Keep a diary of your food intakes. This will help prevent acid reflux. Note what, when and how much you eat. Track when your acid reflux symptoms develop. Some time it may not be the food. It may be the timing or quantity of a particular food that triggers your reflux, not the food itself but may be the timing or quantity of a particular food that triggers it.

Make those food items and timings that suit you as your acid reflux diet foods.

You cant prevent acid reflux if are eating too close to bedtime, eating too fast, or just be eating too much of a particular food. Diet has a very important role in both preventing and treating it.  The whole idea is to reduce the acids inside the stomach.

Following are some of the other ideas that help prevent acid reflux:

Acid reflex prevention 1 - Relax.

Stress is not directly related to acid reflux. But stress usually triggers a behavior and that behavior may become the cause of acid reflux. For example some people eat fast and too much under stress.  So learn to relax.

Acid reflex prevention 2 - Don't wear tight belts or clothes

Tight clothing around the abdomen will squeeze the stomach. This forces food up against the LES causing food reflux into the esophagus. Even if the cloths are loose fit but a tight belt can cause the same acid reflux symptoms.

Acid Reflex Prevention 3 – Keep Your Head at a Higher Level Than Your Feet During Sleeping.

Lying down flat will presses the stomach's contents against the LES. With the head higher than the stomach, gravity will help reduce this pressure. Keep bricks or any other object under the head side frame of the bed to elevate the level. This can be considered one of the easiest acid reflux remedies.

Acid Reflex Prevention 4 - Eat Smarter

A full stomach increases the chance that some of this food will reflux into the esophagus. So eat small portions of foods. Don’t eat 2-3 hours before going to bed and avoid eating those foods and beverages which stimulate acid formation.

Acid Reflex Prevention 5 – Control Weight.

Obesity increases abdominal pressure thereby can push stomach contents up into the esophagus..

Acid Reflex Prevention 6 - Don't Smoke

Tobacco smoke damages the esophagus' walls and weakens it. Smoking also stimulates the production of stomach acid. Simply stop smoking!
