Home Remedies for Vaginal Itching and Burning

Every woman, from time to time, suffers from the embarrassing vaginal itching and burning problems. Controlling the urge to itch vagina in a social or work environment becomes a necessity and that can cause a lot of discomfort.

A number of reasons can cause vaginal itching. Yeast infection is the most common cause. Other causes include menopause, chemicals in menstruation pad, tight clothing, lack of hygiene during sexual activities and STD.

Home Remedies for Vaginal Itching and Burning

These are some lifestyle changes and some external applications of remedies on the vagina to stop the itch. Some of them will give instant relief and the others will slowly cure the infection, if any.

1. Wear Loose Clothing to Avoid infection and Vaginal Itch

Tight clothing causes friction on vagina hurting the skin. There is no air circulation to the area to keep it dry. Damp and closed area will attract bacteria and fungus which will worsen the condition.

Wearing loose clothes will achieve both these objectives. It will stop frictional contact with the cloth as well as allow air to circulate.

Maximize use of cotton cloths whenever you can. Cotton can absorb moisture. Synthetic clothes do not absorb perspiration. They can also create allergic reactions.

At night time, avoid wearing undergarments.

2. Cold Compress to Combat Vaginal Itch During Night

Due to vaginal itching during the night time your sleep can get disturbed. Lack of sleep during the night can make you lethargic during the day. It also reduces your immunity.

 

Use a cold compress bottle or strap or put ice in a cotton cloth and dab it on the vagina and the rest of the affected area. Cold reduces blood circulation and numbs the skin to provide temporary relief from the itching.

The stopping of itching will help you to sleep. You can apply the ice directly on vagina, but the melting ice water will wet the pubic area. Make sure you dry it with a cotton cloth once you finish applying ice.

3. Kefir or Yogurt to Stop Vaginal Itch

You can use both kefir and yogurt to get rid of vaginal itching and burning. Kefir is a cultured, enzyme-rich milk product full of friendly microorganisms (probiotic bacteria), particularly lactobacillus and bifidus. It is nutritious and therapeutic than yogurt providing protein, essential minerals, and valuable B vitamins.

Kefir will provide a long term solution to your vaginal itch by killing the bacteria as well as by increasing the immunity. Drink a glass of kefir empty stomach in the morning every day to get the best result.

In addition to the long term benefits, you can use kefir for immediate short term relief from vaginal itch. You need to apply it directly on the itch site.

  • Dip a tampon in kefir and insert it in your vagina. Keep it therefore 30 minutes and remove it. Do it 2-3 times a day.
  • Generously apply kefir on vagina, both outside and inside by opening its lips. Keep it there for 30 minutes. Rinse it with water and make the area dry by a cotton towel.

Kefir can be made at home and it is available in stores. If kefir is not readily available, then you can use yogurt. Yogurt is also an excellent home remedy for vaginal itch.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar to Get Relief from Vaginal Itch

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)possesses excellent antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. It is a very good home remedy for vaginal itching and burning sensation. It not only stops the itch but also balances the pH of your vagina for long term protection from infection.

A concentrated apple cider vinegar may give sting, therefore always use diluted apple cider vinegar in water. You can decide the exact proportion of apple cider vinegar and water ratio by gradually increasing the Apple cider content and checking which ratio suites you for the best results.

You should use apple cider vinegar to clean the vagina as well as drink ACV daily. Add one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a cup of room temperature water and drink it every morning and evening.

Add a tablespoon of ACP in a glass of water and wash your vagina. Increase the quantity to 2 tablespoons and wash again. Third time add 3 tablespoons of ACV in a glass of water and wash your vagina. If you can handle more Apple cider Vinegar in water without getting any sting, then use the highest tested quantity of ACV in water to wash your vagina twice daily.

5. Garlic for Vaginal Itching Due to Yeast Infection

Garlic is an excellent home remedy for fighting yeast infection and resulting vaginal itching and burning sensation. Garlic with its very good antibacterial and antibiotic properties kills the yeast and bacteria in vagina.

Chew 1-3 cloves of garlic every day. it will not only kill bacteria in your stomach but will also provide excellent cardiovascular benefits. It improves immunity and avoids future bacterial attacks on the body.

For application on vagina, you will require garlic oil. You only need a couple of drops of garlic oil for getting the benefits. Take one teaspoon of vitamin E Oil. Add 2-3 drops of garlic oil. Mix it well and apply it on your vagina. Open the lips of vagina and apply in and out. Apply 2 times a day. It will kill the yeast and bacteria and give you to give you relief from the itch.
