Food poisoning may feel devastating, but usually it improves within a couple of days. It is a very common condition and one in four people get food poisoning every year in a developed country like the United States.

The source of food poisoning is unhygienic food. In fact even if you take the safest food but if it handled in unhygienic way then it will cause food poisoning. The bacteria can spread and easily make you the victim.

Only a microscopic amount of bacteria like E.coli, salmonella, campylobacter and scores of other such microbes can snatch you happiness for a couple of days through food poisoning.

 

Usually these bacteria are found in meats, seafood and dairy but fruits and vegetables can also get affected.

There are a number of things you can do as home remedies for food poisoning to reduce the impact as well as get out of it quickly.

Diarrhea and vomiting as a consequence of food poisoning can drain you due to the fluid lost. This can be dangerous and life threatening. Therefore, it is important to ensure that the diarrhea is stopped immediately.

1. Ease the Stomach

Once you get the first signs of food positioning, stop eating or drinking anything for a few hours. In fact you will not be able to drink or eat anything. But, the dilemma is that the lost fluid must be regained.

2. Sip Water Slowly

This may be cumbersome, but the best way to regain the lost fluid. Sip water slowly. If you take one sip and wait to see that it is not thrown out, then take another sip and so on. If the bacteria is still active, you may continue to lose fluids, so keep sipping water slowly.

3. Do Not Eat Heavy

Eat if you have to, otherwise avoid eating. Skip at least one meal and if you can do not eat anything for a full day. Once your stomach is settled and your digestive system begins to accept water and other fluids take non carbonated sports drinks to recover lost minerals.

 

Eat ripe banana slowly. If you get nausea feeling stop eating.

Avoid all kinds of fatty foods, dairy products, caffeine, alcohol and nicotine for a couple of days to a week to ensure your system is settled well without disruptions by these foods.

4. Take Rest

You have lost water, unable to drink more as a result you lose a lot of energy. Take sufficient rest.

Most people will get cured by taking the above precautionary measures and remedies. If all these measures do not improve your condition then you may have to visit a doctor. Your infection may be more severe.

If you continue to lose fluids then you may be given IV fluids that will energize you. In addition if any antibiotics are required, doctor will prescribe it.
