Kidney Stone Pain - Information on Kidney Stone Pain and Its Management

In some cases the kidney stone pain may just be a dull and non threatening pain felt all the time. But in some other people  kidney stone pain is felt as sudden onset of excruciating, cramping pain in their low back and or side, abdomen or groin (See Symptoms of kidney stones ).

The excruciating pain does not get any relief by changing position. The intensity remains the same whether you are lying down, sitting or walking. The pain usually travels  from the lower back to the front, side and to the pelvis. It may also be felt arising from the belly area and spreading all around down to testicles. The sharp, stabbing pains usually remain concentrated on one side of the lower back.

 

The intensity increases gradually and it appears as if the stone is going to cut open the abdomen and come out. This pain is the worst part for most kidney stone victims, even more painful than the eventual passing of the stone itself.

This type of pain can be so serious that  it is often accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Such Kidney stones pain usually is accompanied by blood in the urine. some time the blood in the urine may not be visible to the naked eye but the lab tests may pick it up, Other times light to dark orange color in the urine is clear indication of the blood in the urine.

No home remedy can work in this case. It becomes a medical emergency. If left untreated for long infection may occur in the urinary tract and there may be fever and chills.

Management of this type kidney stone pain is done by pain killers under medical supervision. X-ray is taken and depending on the size of the stone doctors decide the future course of action to remove the stone. In most cases medication take care os stone removal but in some cases surgery may be required.
