Dandruff Hair Loss
Rule out all other causes of hair loss before blaming dandruff!
You many not be surprised by the fact that Hair loss and dandruff are related but dandruff on its own doesn't cause it. There are many scalp conditions that mimic dandruff and the resulting hair loss may be caused by those underlying conditions such as contact dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema or any other skin condition.
Just the presence of white scaly flakes or itchy scalp doesn’t automatically mean you have dandruff. Any of the above skin conditions will give same symptoms as of dandruff.
So the first step is to find out what exactly the cause of the white flakes and itchy scalp. Let us assume that you have met the doctor and it is confirmed that you have dandruff.
Does Dandruff really cause Hair Loss?
The next obvious question is- are dandruff and hair loss related? Answer is yes to some extent.
Though it has been proven in many researches around the globe that dandruff doesn’t cause any hair loss on its own, it is still responsible indirectly.
Here is how?
Dandruff causes itchy scalp which results in scratching by the sufferer. The repetitive scratching process weakens hair roots. Ultimately the hair is lost.
Can You Prevent Dandruff Hair Loss?
Of course you can stop hair loss caused by scratching the itchy scalp. Stop scratching is the simple answer.
It is easier said than done. The itchy scalp causes such a strong urge to scratch at times that you will subconsciously begin to scratch. So use chemical less natural treatments for dandruff to stop itching which will result in you’re not scratching the scalp. There will then be no hair loss.
Now even after that if the hair loss is not stopped then it is clear that there is some other reason for such hair loss. You have some other skin condition in addition to the dandruff which is causing hair loss. This is common.
So go to a skin specialist and find out exact cause of your hair loss and treat it.
