Common Cold Symptoms - Recognizing and Taking Suitable Action

It is only after one to three days of catching a cold virus; the common cold symptoms begin to appear. If you are careful during this period then you can save the problem from getting worst. So learn to identify the symptoms of common cold.

It may all begin with an itching or burning sensation in the nose or throat. Soon sneezing (often from nasal irritation), runny nose, and other symptoms of common cold appear. You will also begin to feel tired and unwell.

 

Slowly the watery nasal secretions become thicker and turn darker. This transition from runny nose to the stuffy nose is very common. It is important to note that the dark mucus is not an indication of a bacterial infection.

 

Getting a mild cough is often the next symptom. Though the cough may remain persistent, it generally doesn’t get worst. You may begin to feel discomfort in swallowing as a result of sore throat that follows coughing.

If coughing is causing a lot of distress in the lower parts of the lungs then it is indicative of a bacterial infection.

Cough caused by the common cold makes the suffering worst for the chronic bronchitis patients.

it is sometime difficult to differentiate between common cold and flu because most of the common cold symptoms are similar to the symptoms of flu. Common cold doesn't usually cause fever or at worst there may be a mild fever in some cases. If there is a fever then chances are that it is flu not common cold.

The symptoms of common cold usually subside within 2 -4 days of catching it. Feeling of tiredness gradually disappears but congestion may be felt for weeks.

Common cold is contagious during the early stages (3-4 days) therefore one should ensure that he/she doesn’t spread it to others. Maintaining distance from other people and taking rest are best ways to stop its spread.

Cold reduces body resistance, making person susceptible to bacterial infections. Therefore taking rest is very important.

If your cold is really nasty then don’t take it lightly, seek medical attention!
