Different Causes of Acne and Their Impacts on the Skin.

There are a lot of myths about what causes acne. In fact what you do or what you eat has nothing to do with it. So doing exercise or washing face will not help at the same time avoiding pizza or chocolates is neither going to stop onset of acne nor is going to help in healing it. So what causes acne then ?

Following are the main causes of acne:

1 - Over production of  sebum.

Sebum is a natural oil that makes and keeps the skin smooth and supple. Sebaceous glands which are just below the surface of the skin are responsible for production of sebum. Over activity of Sebaceous glands produces extra sebum. The tiny pores where the fine facial hairs grow allow the sebum to come to the surface. A combination of sebum and dead skin is what causes acne.

2 - Hormone testosterone

It begins at puberty when body begins to produce Androgens. Testosterone normally called a male hormone is the prominent androgen, which is present in both males and females. Excess production of Testosterone in the blood stream overstimulate the Sebaceous glands.

3 - Dead Skin

Normally the dead skin cells within the  hair follicles (the tubes that hold the hair)shed gradually and expelled on to the surface of the skin. These cells are shed more rapidly during puberty. Therefore a combination of dead cells and excess production of sebum block the follicle prevents the skin from completing its natural process of renewal. These blockages manifest as acne.

4 - Bacterium Propionibacterium acnes

The  Bacterium Propionibacterium acnes  or P.acnes as commonly known is a part of skin's natural sebum maintaenance system. P.acnes is a regualr resident of all types of skins. Once a follicle is blocked the  P. acnes bacteria rapidly multiplies, there follows a chemical reaction causing inflammation in the follicle and surrounding skin.
