What are the Asthma Causes?
It is not clear as to what causes Asthma. Among the prominent Asthma causes are genetics (heredity), immune system, environment and infections. Lot of research has been done on these and hopefully continuing research will reveal more accurate linkage.
What causes asthma is one of the following or a combination of the following reasons:
Immune system
Genetics (Heredity)
Though the genes responsible for it have not been identified yet, but there are enough statistical evidences that it runs in families. That is why it is widely believed that one of the Asthma causes is inheritance.
Immune system can be another important reason for it. It has been established by many studies that immune system of people with Asthma reacts differently to the triggers than the immune system of the people without it. It is the overreaction of immune system in some cases when a person comes in contact with triggers such as dust mites or pollen etc that causes Asthma. Even overreaction to bacteria and viruses in some cases can cause it.
Environment
Long term exposure to various substances can also be one the main risk factors. For example long exposure to passive cigarette smoke in an air conditioned room can become a risk factor for it. Breathing in fine dust particles along with air in the desert area are another risk factor. Pollen in gardens and dust mites in home or office rooms or carpets are the environmental risk factors.
Infections
Various viral and bacterial infections that are responsible for common cold and cough can over a long period become risk factors for Asthma causes. Chronic bronchitis and other infectious conditions can trigger it. Acid reflux disease and menstrual cycles in women can trigger attacks.
In addition to above certain medication including beta blockers, aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are prominent Asthma causes.
